The Caparéseau website enables you to view the available reception capacity of transmission and distribution systems on a regional scale or for a single substation.

The Caparéseau website aims to inform you on the opportunities for connecting electricity generation facilities to transmission and distribution systems. It was created by RTE in collaboration with distribution system operators (ENEDIS, ESDB, GEREDIS, SICAE Est, SICAE Oise, SICAP Pithiviers, SRD, Strasbourg Electricity Networks, URM, VIALIS).

The information on reception capacities published on the website is provided for all generators. However, under the regional schemes for grid connection of renewable energies (S3REnR), system operators develop and reserve reception capacities for renewable energies. The Caparéseau website provides additional information for the reception of renewable energy and the advancement of these schemes.

Which capacities are published?

RE reception capacities

For each region, you can consult:

  • The RE power already connected,

  • The power of the RE projects in development,

  • The reserved and available capacity under the S3REnR.

The reception capacities of the transmission system

RTE publishes:

  • Capacity reserved and available for the S3REnR All maintenance work planned on the public transmission system for S3REnR schemes,

  • Reception capacity in high voltage for connection beyond the S3REnR reserved capacities.

These values are calculated according to the power generation facilities commissioned and in development.

Due to the specificity of the connection to the 400kV network, the connection potentials for this voltage level are published here (pending link).

The reception capacity of the distribution system

Distribution system operators also publish data relating to connection to their system.

The reception capacities published are provided by system operators as an indication. They are not binding and will be confirmed once a generator’s connection request has been processed.

How to navigate the Caparéseau website

On the Caparéseau, when you click on a substation, several tabs can be displayed.

RE monitoring tab

This tab was developed by RTE in collaboration with the distribution system operators to provide information on the state of progress of the connection of REs in the context of the regional schemes for grid connection of renewable energies (S3REnR). Specifically, it highlights the capacity reserved for REs under these schemes at each substation.

The prefect of each region sets out the renewable energy development target to take into account in the S3REnR. System operators develop and reserve RE reception targets based on this.

The capacity reserved for REs under the S3REnR published in the "Monitoring of REs" tab corresponds to the reserved capacity under the scheme. However, the reserved capacity may evolve over the lifetime of the S3REnR to meet connection requests. The publication takes this into account and the value displayed is different from the one given in the approved scheme.

The "Monitoring of REs" tab also provides information on the state of progress of the connection of REs and the level of achievement of the S3REnR targets. Transmission system operators jointly publish the following information in the form of a diagram:

  • RE power already connected: accumulated power of RE facilities already connected to and downstream of the substation.
  • Power of RE projects in development: accumulated power of RE facilities in development at and downstream of the substation.
  • The reception capacity reserved under the S3REnR still to be allocated: share of the power reserved under the scheme which has not yet been assigned to a connection request.
  • The updated unit quota
  • Power of projects in development under the S3REnR in progress: accumulated power of RE facilities in development at and downstream of the substation since the approval of the current S3REnR. The share of this power which is under a connection agreement is also specified.
  • Rate of allocation of reserved capacity: share of capacities reserved for S3REnR allocated to RE facilities in development or in service. This corresponds to the overall rate of advancement of the scheme.

Public transmission system reception capacity tab

This tab, developed by RTE, gives the reception capacities of the public transmission system for all of the generators. In all cases, RTE provides information on the reception capacities of the public transmission system for all of the generators. However, spread information is different depending on whether the region has an S3RenR or not.

RTE provides information both to RE generators for connection under the scheme and to other generators.

Data on generation reception capacity under the S3REnR 

  • Reception capacity reserved for the S3REnR, available for the public transmission system: available capacity within the limit of the reserved capacity. This capacity reflects the system’s capacity to accommodate additional generation at this location in the transmission system.

  • Maintenance work listed in the scheme or in its initial state, aimed at increasing the available reserve capacity: At some substations, S3REnR schemes have planned maintenance work on the public transmission system to achieve the level of capacities reserved for REs. These may be works planned by RTE during the development of the scheme or works previously scheduled by RTE and included in the "initial state" of the S3REnR.

Data on generation reception capacity beyond the capacities reserved for S3REnR 

RTE provides, by voltage level, an indication of the additional reception capacities of the high voltage network, defined as the maximum additional power accepted by the system. This value is calculated taking into account the reserved capacity not yet allocated and all of the generation facilities in service or awaiting service.

In HV-1, accounting for calculation uncertainties, RTE expresses the information based on a traffic light system

The displayed colours correspond to the following value intervals:

  • "red light" > zero capacity

  • "amber light" > capacity between 0 and 15 MW

  • "green light" > capacity greater than 15 MW

Distribution system reception capacity tab

This tab, developed by the DSOs, gives the generation reception capacities of substations for all of the generators. Note that this information is provided in terms of the substation and the reception capacities of each downstream work cannot be deduced from this (MV network, positions MV/HV and LV network).

In all cases, the DSOs provide information on the reception capacities of the substations for all generators wishing to connect to the Public Distribution System (PDS) downstream of the substations it operates. There are two types of information shared:

  • the first for generators under a S3REnR
  • the second for other generators in all cases

Data on generation reception capacity under the S3REnR:

In addition to the two pieces of data available in the "Monitoring of REs" tab:

  • Reception capacity reserved under the S3REnR yet to be allocated;
  • Capacity reserved for REs under the S3REnR.

The TSOs provide the following information:

  • Remaining reception capacity reserved under the S3REnR, with no works on the substation (MW). This data is accompanied by a sentence if the reception capacity is limited by the public transmission system capacity "This reception capacity available on the public distribution system requires works on the public transmission system.”;
  • The number of existing transformers in the delivery point substation;
  • The accumulated power of existing transformers in the delivery point substation;
  • The minimum consumption downstream of the delivery point substation;
  • The number of additional transformers possible in the delivery point substation;
  • The voltage upstream of the delivery point substation;
  • The voltage downstream of the delivery point substation;
  • Potentially: works scheduled in the scheme or in its initial state, aimed at increasing the available reserve capacity.

Data on generation reception capacity outside of the S3REnR

The two pieces of information provided allow generators that are not part of a S3REnR to access information concerning the reception capacity of the substation:

  • Remaining HV/MV transformation capacity available for injection into the public distribution system (MW);
     
  • Queued power outside of the S3REnR scheme plus the S3REnR reserved capacity (MW). When there is no S3REnR in the region, this last data is known as "Queued Power" (MW).

The information provided by the DSO, in the form of a photograph at a given moment in time, is not binding. It must be backed up by a grid connection study requested by the generator.
