Publication of the procedure for connecting high-power consumption installations on suitable sites
To support the French strategy for reindustrialization and digital sovereignty and to enhance attractiveness to high-power industries, the Commission de regulation de l’énergie (the French national regulatory authority) approved on May 7, 2025, a specific procedure for the rapid connection of very high-power consumption installations on sites identified as suitable by the State.
These sites have a land area of several tens of hectares compatible with this type of projects, confirmed available by local authorities. Additionally, the proximity to the 400 kV network allows for a quick consumption.
This procedure has been integrated into the Technical Reference Documentation (new article 1.4.3: lien).
RTE will publish on its website the suitable sites as soon as they are identified and will pre-reserve capacity for these sites upon request from the State.
The connection on these suitable sites must be considered as meeting a specific client need (speed and firmness of capacity) and is consequently subject to specific contractual and financing paths.
The new procedure applies from May 9, 2025. The CRE will be notified of the Connection Commitment (equivalent to a TFP) and will be seized of the connection agreement for approval in the coming days.
